START WITH THE BASICS
Part A helps cover hospital care and Part B helps cover medical care. You can consider separate prescription drug coverage and a Medicare Supplement policy.
A private plan provides your Medicare benefits, usually including prescription drug coverage. Check its provider network, costs, and rules for getting care.
Also called Medigap, this helps pay certain costs under Original Medicare. It is not the same as Medicare Advantage and does not work with an Advantage plan.
Prescription drug coverage is called Part D. Review your medicines and pharmacies for the exact plan. Read the basics at Medicare.gov ↗
YOUR APPOINTMENT
Have your current coverage information, doctor names, prescription list, and expected retirement or coverage-change date available for your conversation.
Enrollment timing matters. Employer coverage, COBRA, and retiree coverage can affect your next steps differently. Ask before delaying Medicare or cancelling existing coverage.
Choose a Medicare appointmentDiscuss when you can enroll or make a change, and any risk of a gap or penalty.
Review doctors, prescriptions, travel needs, and expected costs.
Confirm the steps and effective date before changing coverage.
Most people become eligible at 65. Some people qualify earlier because of a disability or certain medical conditions. Your enrollment timing depends on your situation.
Sometimes, but not all coverage allows you to delay without consequences. Review the employer plan and your situation before making that decision.
No. Medicare Supplement insurance is designed to work with Original Medicare. Ask about your rights and timing before switching between coverage types.
